The current hardware, running on a Dual Opteron 248 and 6GB DDR RAM and CentOS 5.8 is to be decommissioned before the end of the year (2012).
This server has served faithfully and reliably for almost 10 years and despite its continued excellent performance and mostly being an underutilized, we feel it is time to take this server offline and replace it with a newer machine and updated OS.
The move from CentOS 5 to CentOS 6 is the biggest OS change since 2007. The new server is expected to run a quad core i5 processor. The new i5 processors are far more efficient and more powerful than the the old Opteron 248s which should provide increase capacity as well as reduced carbon footprint which in turn makes less of a negative impact on the environment.
We do not expect there to be any downtime greater than a few minutes and there is no action required by users on this server. As the software versions may change (to the latest releases), it may be necessary to update your own software/scripts. We will release software versions used in the coming days and it is advised that you check your own software/scripts for compatibility.
Our other DirectAdmin servers will also be undergoing the upgrade to CentOS 6 in January.
